Michelle Memorial EMS
Cross Lake, Manitoba
This page is about my trip to Cross Lake Manitoba. I'm working with the EMS
service to complete my clinical for Primary Care Paramedic. If you are looking
at a map, find Lake Winnipeg and look at the top right corner (roughly). We are
on 24hr duty so I will post updates as I can.
If you have found your way here, then you are either family, friends or
classmates. If you are on dialup, you might want to right click
and save as on the mpegs.
Sunday June 3rd 07
OK, we paid for the quiet time. Three call outs from zero dark thirty to
0500hrs. One was an infant with respiratory distress. What a little trooper. No
crying and just as good as gold. Not afraid of the strangers or the equipment.
His vitals were pretty good considering.
Had a nice big breakfast in case the day is as busy as the night. Pretty cool
out this morning. Quite a change.
Saturday June 2nd 07
Had a full sleep last night, no calls. Scary. Got up early and was called to
a forearm compound fracture (broke through skin) and then a chest pain call
(relieved with nitro). Then back for a bannock breakfast. Scrumptious. Then some
medivacs, pretty quiet day....so far.
I love it up here. Hardly any bugs and the weather has been great. Everybody is
very friendly.
Friday June 1st 07
Lot's of medivacs today. Suspected broken arm (got to splint), appendix
(thought it better if a doctor operated) and odds and sods of medical and
trauma.
The weather has been beautiful, calm and warm. A lot less bugs than down south.
You need to try and grab sleep when you can between the calls. There is no
predictability.
Accommodations are great and the ambulance is a 2002. More appliances than we
have at home. I've been playing with the microwave,, its such a novelty.
Thursday May 31st 07
Well the trip wasn't too remarkable on the way up except that there were more bears than camping spaces.
